Bridging the effect of unhealthy family Lifestyle on the Self Esteem of Adolescent girls raised in single parenthood and Blended families in local communities.
The plight of adolescent girls of single parents and blended families have become a social issue which needs urgent attention. Often we read in the news, abuse cases of girls living with their stepfathers. There are lots of cases which were not reported openly but such have capacity to affect the self-esteem of the young girls. A sympathetic case was the one involving a 16 years old girl who lived with her mother in her second marriage. In a local community. She was abused sexually by her step father with the knowledge of her biological mother. The mother feared that if she raised alarm, her marriage would be destroyed. She wanted to cover the deed of her husband at the expense of her daughter self-esteem. These girls have been abused, molested, and damaged by one form of domestic violence or the other.
This intervention aims, first, at bridging the behavioral gap caused in the lives of these category of adolescent girls, then provide other intervention such as education and life skills, help them avoid child marriage and teen pregnancy, build the confidence and sense of value, give them a chance to succeed and contribute towards addressing power imbalances.
Our strategies is to design a human centered programme with core beneficiaries through counseling program for parents and girls on healthy family Lifestyles.
